How Powder Coating Changes a Product

Cut and welded metal is only half a product. The finish is what you actually see, touch and live with — and for our metal pieces, that finish is powder coating.

Raw fabricated metal is strong but unresolved: bare, prone to scratches and marks, and far from the considered object we want to send into a home. Powder coating is the step that turns that fabricated form into a finished AERIS piece.

What powder coating actually is

Instead of liquid paint, a fine dry powder is applied to the metal with an electrostatic charge, then cured in an oven where it melts and fuses into a single, even skin. The result is a coating that is bonded to the surface rather than sitting on top of it — which is exactly why it wears so much better than ordinary paint.

Why we choose it

Three reasons. First, durability: a cured powder finish resists chips, scratches and everyday knocks far better than a sprayed finish, so a table still looks good after years of real use. Second, consistency: it gives an even, premium surface across flat panels and tight corners alike. Third, colour and texture: matte, satin or fine-textured finishes let us control exactly how a piece reads in a room.

How it shapes the design

Finish is not an afterthought for us — it is part of the design decision. A soft matte black reads architectural and quiet; a warm tone can make the same form feel softer and more domestic. Because the colour and texture are chosen alongside the form, the finished piece feels intentional from every angle.

Built to be lived with

A well powder-coated surface is also easy to care for — a wipe with a soft, damp cloth is usually all it needs. It is a small, unglamorous step in the workshop that makes an outsized difference to how premium and long-lasting an AERIS product feels in your home.
